Dinner with Ed Schultz

On behalf of the Dragon Football Family, we want to thank Ed for entertaining the football coaching staff at his Detroit Lakes home.

Flashing #12 on the uniform, Ed captured Associated Press Honorable Mention All American Honors in 1977 as the QB for the Dragons. That same year, he was voted the co-recipient for the Vincent Yatchek Award given to the Team MVP (he shared the award with Bemidji State Head Football Coach Jeff Tesch). The conference also honored him with the MVP award.

Ed spends his time working in the radio and television business. This year, Ed Schultz has been nominated by Radio and Records as News/Talk Syndicated Personality of the Year. Ed has proudly represented the upper Midwest with TV appearances on CNN’s Larry King, FOX’s Bill O’Reilly, The Today Show and many other cable news network shows.

Coach Tomeo Travels to South Carolina

I was invited last week to Presbyterian College in South Carolina to meet with their staff, talk football, and recruiting. I came away impressed with the Blue Hose Football Program, Coach Bobby Bentley and his staff, and the community and people in Clinton, SC. It was a great professional development trip for me and I come back to MSUM with many new ideas to help improve our football program. Below is a link to their athletic page: GoBlueHose

Football Alumni Golf Tournament 2008

Too say that the day was windy would be an understatement, but the 2nd Annual Dragon Football Golf Tournament was held at the Lynx National Golf Course in Sauk Centre, MN this past Saturday. Another great day of Dragon Football stories and lore was shared, even though I overheard some of the same stories as last year, they seemed to get a little better this year (was it the liquid refreshment?).

Our congratulations to the foursome from Allegiance Software headed by Brad Duerr, Ryan Sunram, Bryce Carlson, and their sponsor/boss from Allegiance, Mark Jensen. They had an adjusted score of 56.5 for the day.

Helping put the tournament together, special thanks to:
  • Paul Clark ’98
  • Bob Jones ‘93
  • Dragon Athletic Director Doug Peters
  • Rose Bakke from the Alumni Foundation
  • Coach Bo Abraham on the grill
Also like to thank for their donations:
  • Hornbacher’s Foods
  • Hormel
  • Double R Saloon – Bob Pallansch
  • Budweiser Distributors
After speaking to many in attendance, seems that July is a great month to do the tournament and the majority feel that central MN is the best location so that we can draw from throughout the state. We will do some investigative work on if there is a better course available, if you know of one, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Enjoy the rest of your summer. . .camp opens August 9th!!!
